Basics of setting up a WordPress website

Step 6 – Your customer’s Journey

Knowing how your customers arrive at your site and what they get up to whilst there before buying, or leaving can help you develop your site in the right direction.

Learning what triggers your customer’s buying behaviour is fascinating.

Web Statistics

The basic thing you can do is set up a free StatCounter (https://statcounter.com) account, even the free plan will give you lots of information about where your site visitors come from, and the journey they take when on your site.

Knowledge on the social medias which send them to you will tell you which of your marketing works best, and where they come from geographically could be useful knowledge.

Are your customers doing what you want them to do when on your site? If not, you can look at what they do click on for clues as to where you can make the journey easier and quicker. What is the path they take before making that purchase? Which page do you lose them on? Why do you think that is?

The information you’ll get regarding the path they take on their site can help you streamline the customer’s journey. Look for patterns, do they tend to look at your about me page, your contact us page, your mailing list optin page, your portfolio, a particular product page?

What pages are most popular? At what point do they click on your call to action? What information are they looking for before deciding on that next step.

Look at making the whole process easier, and quicker.

Really study the stats and get a feel for what your visitors and potential customers do when on your site.
